The Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated continued National's Signature Program - HeartLinks to Health by providing Mobile education and service vans to attendees at the 24th Annual Gullah Celebration held January 29, 2020 - February 20, 2020.

More than 1900 people attended the 2020 Gullah Celebration and on Saturday, February 15, the Gullah Market Place had 450 attendees. Available to all attendees were 3 medical mobile units; 1. A bloodmobile for blood and plasma donations, a Beaufort Memorial medical van which provided free blood pressure checks and blood glucose levels check, and for a $10.00 fee, cholesterol screenings. And while dental screenings for children is a separate program, having the Colgate Dental Van present at the Festival allowed us to provide dental screenings to children ages 1-12.

In total, nearly 100 children and adults were screened, meeting our objective of educating people about the health issues that can most affect their daily lives.

The Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated members and families participated in the Relay for Life of the Lowcountry walk on September 21st at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton, SC. This event was a celebration of life to honor cancer survivors. Luminaries were decorated to remember loved ones who lost their battle with cancer. The goal set for Relay for Life of the Lowcountry to raise $71,000 for the American Cancer Society.

The Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated joined our sisters, families and friends across the land as we walked for our health in September of 2019. Intergenerational Link sisters, family and friends came together at Jarvis Park in Hilton Head Island to enjoy each other’s company and participate in the annual Link’s Walk-a-Thon. The beautiful weather and one of the local parks provided a dynamic backdrop for our walk. Some Link sisters endured the longer course while others chose the shorter course but all walked. There was even a blood pressure station to monitor our blood pressure and learn about healthy eating. Fresh fruit was our energy food. Exercise stations around the trail encouraged a heart healthy workout. Bonding through healthy activities was our mission - “Mission Accomplished!”

The Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated had an awesome Blood Drive in partnership with the American Red Cross and Queen Chapel AME Church. This was our second Blood Drive event on June 15, 2019. At the event we performed registration of donors, our members donated blood and our friends and community friends donated. A wonderful turnout for a great cause.
