Services to Youth

2019 - 2020 - 2021

Links StemReady was the programming offered to the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club, an on-going partner with our chapter. The objective of the StemReady programming was to excite high school age students about math, science, technology, and engineering. The program was further designed to develop a NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), Jr. club. NSBE, Jr. goals were to e.ncourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or related fields. The initiative was to help students have a positive attitude toward academic excellence, stimulate enthusiasm about science, technology, engineering and mathematics encourage and support parental commitment to children’s STEM education. Below are some of the pictures that could accompany this program.

The September 2019 business meeting of the Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was highlighted by the HBCU Theme. Each of our approximately 30 members represented an HBCU with pompons of the school colors, cookies with each campus logo, and wearing paraphernalia of their chosen college. Also included in the representation was a short historic overview and current best known facts, or well-known graduates, as well as the member’s connection to the college. Some of our Links sisters were HBCU graduates themselves while others were parents of HBCU graduates.

The Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated have taken on a long term strategy of developing a culture of "giving back" in partnership with Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. Hilton Head (SC) Chapter adopted Voorhees College in Denmark, SC., a private historically black liberal arts institution affiliated with the Episcopal church, whose mission is to produce highly qualified graduates who coalesce intellect and faith in pursuit of life-long learning, healthy living, the betterment of society, and an abiding faith in God.

The college strives to balance practical career training with a well-rounded background in the liberal arts. Voorhees College has a curriculum that is a mix of the views of Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois; a mix of career training and liberal education.

The Hilton Head (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated assisted with The SMART Girls session which discussed the power of reflective journaling and the girls began their individual journaling. The Power of Words has been the theme for the last 2 sessions.

Our very own, Lashone “Keisha” Grimes, led the participants of The SMART Girls program in a session on self-esteem. The interactive session had 20 young ladies developing a poster of positive self descriptions and discussing the importance of self love and daily self-affirmations. Keisha is the author of “More than a Pretty Face” Empowering Women to Love and Value Their Inner Beauty”. In the usual style of our Link sisters, healthy snacks were served.
